Here's a brief explanation how doppelgangers work:

Essentially the goal of a doppelganger is to replace someone, a government official, a major general, or a ruler, with an exact copy that can be used as a puppet controlled by the one who cast the spell. Doppelgangers are created by taking the essence of someone (usually some strands of hair) and combining it with clay to create a new body that appears just like the original.

The new body has no mind of its own, no soul, merely an empty shell resembling life.

Doppelgangers make excellent assassins as the person who controls them cannot feel the pain or damage inflicted onto the double. The puppeteer can control the doppelganger's actions from any distance, and can dictate their movements and actions remotely. Should the puppeteer let go of control temporarily, the doppelganger will merely stare ahead, as if lost in thought. It can still stand, breathe, and even be led around by others, but it cannot move or speak on its own.

When a puppeteer controls a doppelanger, they usually get a first-person point of view through the eyes of the double. However, Vellian included an additional spell for her to watch the doppelganger in a third-person POV as you're seeing above.

Wait, does that mean the mirror's showing what's happening right now? Noooo! And the ceremony's so pretty, with Ryleigh all dressed up.

Because I watched it recently, Vellian's speech makes me think of the Princess Bride. "I've got a wedding to prepare, a wife to murder, and Guilder to frame for it."

@Alex M: Yeah, unfortunately, that's in real time. Hey, you asked last week if we were going to see the wedding...don't forget I said yes!
Vellian was guiding the Doppelganger through the motions up to this point before Selina woke up. And yes, I loved drawing Ryleigh in her saree. :D
Ha ha! I like the PB correlation! Excellent.

Oh, and I think Silas could totally see through a decoy like that.

@Alex M: Well...usually yes. But Vellian watched the couple for a whole month before the wedding. So whenever they left the castle together, she would observe from a distance while in disguise: that way, she was able to act, speak, and move just like Selina with time...
And no one has reason to suspect anything is amiss...so don't blame Silas too much. ;-)

@Livin4thelamb: So Vellian's been watching this whole time? That creeps me out...kinda like she was just waiting, waiting for her chance!!!
Livin4thelamb April 4th, 2017, 7:29 pm
@Elizabeth Weadick: Good question. Vellian only found out Selina was alive and engaged to the Prince about a month before the wedding. She was tempted to kill Selina immediately for her betrayal...but instead, Vellian thought she'd use Selina's connection to the royal family for her own advantage. More of her plan will be explained on the next page.

@Livin4thelamb: Ohhh, I see!! Pretty smart of Vellian....even though I do not like Vellian at all, I've gotta hand it to her--she is one smart, sly lady!!!!!
Livin4thelamb April 9th, 2017, 3:22 pm
@Elizabeth Weadick: Agreed, she's cunning. What's a good story without a clever villain?
Elizabeth Weadick (Guest) April 4th, 2017, 1:33 pm
Interesting!!! I really enjoyed learning about what a doppelganger is....:) And man! has Vellian got some evil schemes up her sleeve. I would be BOILING if I were Selina!!!!
Livin4thelamb April 4th, 2017, 1:36 pm
@Elizabeth Weadick: Yes! What's worse is Vellian doesn't even HAVE sleeves...that's how evil she is.
Elizabeth Weadick (Guest) April 4th, 2017, 5:59 pm
@Livin4thelamb: Whooo-wee!!! WOW!!!! Well, of course, Vellian could not not look evil even if she tried, in my opinion....:)
Elizabeth Weadick (Guest) April 4th, 2017, 1:35 pm
And what really just struck me was how the shape of Vellian's face, her facial expression and everything really makes a picture of evil. :) Great job!!!

@Elizabeth Weadick: Thank you!

That's right villain, tell me your whole plan in every detail so I can have the best chance of stopping it when I break out of here.

@Rateus: *monologue alert*
