C'mon - how can you say no to that face?

Humans do not have the ability to use magic in this world. However, the king has an innate ability to know if someone is lying based on his or her body language, tone, etc. from experience. So here, while Selina is not technically lying (Vellian was never a real mother to Selina, just a cruel ex-dictator, nothing more) the king can tell she's not telling the whole story.

Oh, yeah, and the exclamation point coming out of her mouth doesn't give anything away. ;) Sneaky answer too!

Also, does the room look foggy just because you're focusing in on these characters?

@Alex M: I know, right? And yes indeed, the backgrounds are foggier in order to put some emphasis on each character and I don't have enough time to draw all the backgrounds in each panel.

And whoosh....I can let out my breath!!!!! I really noticed how Selina's face goes from very determined to very scared---that just popped out at me!!! It is going to be very interesting what happens!!! :D

Epic eyebrow raise!
Also, the first two panels are my favorite. It's a difficult and very effective skill to illustrate intense emotion with few words : )

@MJ Neal: Thank you! It sure can be sometimes. But even when we used to write stories together, I saw them storyboarded in my head like a comic book anyway! So this hasn't been too hard of a jump.

You can just feel Selina's desperation in the way she rattles on in the third panel. Also, her face in the fourth panel . . . best puppy-dog eyes I've ever seen you draw.
Livin4thelamb January 2nd, 2017, 4:38 pm
@Becky Farb: Oh excellent, I was hoping that the nervous energy would be noticeable. And yeah! Selina - master of the puppy-dog eyes.

I wonder... why did she name her stick... "fidget"?
Livin4thelamb February 4th, 2017, 10:38 pm
@Capfan: "Fidget" is the finest walking stick in the land. He could be his own webcomic.
