The Clawfoot, or Pelorovis, as they're formally called, used to be regular cattle that wandered down into this cavern about a century ago. This cavern once was a den for dragons where they lived, fought, and killed each other. Trace amounts of their blood lay in the ground, which was soaked up by the fungus which became food for the cattle. Over time, the dragon blood in the fungus transformed them into these hostile, dangerous creatures - taking likeness and temperament after the dragons that once lived here.

Dragon-battle-cows. Can you get any better than that? Also, I love the shadows on the little rocks by the candle.

It is amazing how much love Selina's mother can show to the claw foot, but certainly not to Selina!!! There is a bomb coming in, and I'm so excited for next week!

Just curious, where did you come up with the idea to use cows?

@Alex M: Because the Underworlders use them for food, for hauling heavy loads and even used them for transportation in the past. Vellian was expecting them to be used for battle purposes. The most likely kind of animal herd to wander down in a cave and come "dragonish" were cows. Also, you'll see in a few pages why. ;-)
